I have no story to tell about Philz Coffee. The make awesome coffee one-cup-at-a-time. As it usually goes with such shops, they are not very good at much else. The furniture at this location looks (but feels better) like was collected from about a dozen different garage sales. The WiFi works good and the lighting and the atmosphere meet the minimum requirements. The coffee is worth a trip to any of their locations. That is about it. Nothing else to offer.

Burritto Tales: Chevy’s
I have eaten at Chevy’s so many times. Correction: I have eaten at this Chevy’s close to the City Hall so many times. True, that was a long time ago but reminds me of something. Their food sucks but the interior of this location is very well done and made me go back once-in-a while. I tried many items and they all sucked. One day, I told a friend about Chevy’s food and he vehemently defended them. I was shocked. For someone who had worked at the best French restaurants back East and bragged how many Presidents had served, this was a major faux pas. I found out he eaten the same food everytime he went there: A steak burrito. Finally, I tried one day and it actually was good. Unfortunately, this burrito like all Chevy’s items was so big and filled with beef that I wouldn’t dare do it again. At least, I found something good there. (And a potential blackmail target if he gets famous someday).
Burrito Tales: Casa Mexicanna
This is a very interesting Taqueria. It has been at this location forever and the first time I was around there (years ago), I ordered a basic burrito there and it was the worst burrito I had ever had in my life! How can anyone screw up a burrito that bad? The next time I was around it was a long time afterwards and I had such strong memory of how bad the food had been that I went in and ordered the same thing and it was as horrible as it was before!!! I did not forget the place and the vague memory of how bad the food had been remained and I just had to try the food every few months just to reassure myself it was as bad as my old memories. I don’t remember the ending but still I cannot forget how bad the food had been there once or twice. And they have a great location too.
Coffeeshop Tales: Peet’s
I think Peet’s has much better coffee than Starbucks but less goodies to eat. I have always been a fan of their Marbel Cake. The first time I had it, I experienced a very strange reaction shortly afterwards. But, it wasn’t until the second time that I realized what had happened. About 20 minutes after having a fine piece of Marbel Cake with Peet’s Coffee, I felt a strange wave move up my body, my hands and fingers went numb and I felt shortness of breath and almost dizzy to black out. It went away after a few seconds and left me wondering what happened. I researched and Internet diagnosed it as a panic attack. All the signs fit but why? It absolutely made no sense. The next time it happened, I was able to relate my three experiences and identify the culprit: Marble Cake from Peet’s. It didn’t take long to realize I am allergic or have an allergic reaction to the damn Marble Cake. And I liked it so much.
